Family was something Katie never lacked. She had three families. She had her own, Alicia's, and Angelina's. The only problem was....Katie felt completely alone. Not an entire year after Katie had left Hogwarts, her mother committed suicide. No one could make Katie feel better and she never told anyone, but, she felt it was her fault. She felt she had disappointed her mother and pushed her mother to it by telling her that she wanted to be a reporter and not work for the ministry as a puppet. She had yelled at her mom and left the home the night her mother committed suicide. Everyone told Katie it wasn't anyone's fault but that didn't stop Katie from feeling like it was her fault that her mother had committed the act she had. It was the one of two true secrets that Katie kept to herself to avoid hurting others. It just wasn't in Katie's nature to hurt anyone and her father would feel horrible if he knew how Katie felt because she had comforted him when he blamed himself and he had no idea Katie blamed herself.
Katie had taken a job at the Daily Prophet almost a year after the event and had rented out a small flat not far from her office. She was always in her office though because she buried herself in her work to avoid falling in love but that hadn't worked out as well as Katie had planned. She had been asked to interview Harry Potter since she was a Gryffindor alumni and also played Quidditch with him all but one of her years at Hogwarts. She had grown moderately close to him and the people at the Prophet knew that. They had sent her to interview him about what had gone on in the past year and his feelings about how the wizarding world was going to get past the traumas it had suffered. Katie had ended up getting more than she bargained though. She had talked to him after their interview and they had a romance that appeared in tabloids and they got engaged soon after. It wasn't fast to Katie because, let's face it, a chaser never thinks anything is fast enough.
Katie had been obsessing over the wedding for almost a full month before she finally realized that she had other things to worry about. Her work was not going so well so she had to start thinking about work or risk losing her job in quite an embarrassing way. She had recently gotten back into her work and was working harder than she ever had before. She dived into work to try and convince herself that she and Harry weren't having problems but she knew they were. She knew they were having doubts on both parts but she didn't care. She also knew she loved Harry and love conquers everything doesn't it? Katie Bell sure as hell hoped so or else she was in some for some rough times ahead but she was sure that they were going to make it. She had dated Fred Weasley and so many other guys but none of them had ever made her feel the way that Harry could. He made her feel like she was the only woman he wanted and that made her feel beautiful.
"Katiebear....Are you sure he's the one?"
If she had a dime for every time she heard that, Katie would be a millionaire. Every single member of her family had asked her that exact question and her father had just called to ask that question for about the millionth time. She understood he only wanted her to be happy but it was getting old. She wouldn't have been with him if she didn't think Harry was the one for her. She was happy. She'd never been happier at any time in her life and that was saying something. Her father was coming up to visit her and to meet Harry for the first time tomorrow. He had to move his trip up a day and shorten it to a two day stay due to his poor health. He needed to come see Katie before it became impossible but he also needed to get home fast. She was saddened but worse had happened. She was just grateful that he was coming to see her and to give Harry a chance in the first place.
Katie had recently gotten sick. Yes, Katie Bell had gotten sick. She had been sent home yesterday only to stop at a muggle pet shop and buy a chocolate lab she had affectionately dubbed Lucky. She instantly loved him and had already spent a hundred dollars on him in a lovely collar, a doggie bed, and more toys than any one dog could ever hope to play with in their entire life time. She was spoiling Lucky to keep busy. When you're sick you're supposed to lay down, but not Katie. She needed something to do and she had to keep her hands busy. This was the only way so she did everything she possibly could with Lucky before she ran out of games to play and ways to spoil him so she just had to lay in bed and sneeze her guts out while writing letters to Alicia, Angelina, and her father about how great it was to have someone else around her house besides herself for once. She had slipped on jeans that she thought she'd never wear again before the walk and a tank top she hadn't worn ever. Jeans with holes in the knees and her old red tank top from her Hogwarts years. So old!
Katie had felt better when she had gotten up this morning and had gone out for a nice walk with her puppy. She planned to owl Harry and see where he was. She wanted to visit him because she hadn't seen him in a while and she was excited to finally have time to spend time with him. She had walked all around her neighborhood and about a block away just to have something to do. She still couldn't believe that they had sent their star reporter home sick yesterday despite all her complaints and the very large scene she had made about being sent home. She was going to whack someone in the head when she felt she was well enough to go back to work. Preferably someone that was above her in title just to vent her anger. Katie had stopped to smoke a cigarette so she wouldn't have to smoke when she went to visit Harry. She knew he hated her habit but it was too hard to quit.
Katie had decided eventually that she was just going to give Harry a surprise visit. She knew where he was. It was where he always seemed to be recently. He was fixing up the spare room that Katie had nicknamed the nursery when she thought she was pregnant. She still wasn't completely certain that she wasn't but she was pretty sure she wasn't. She grabbed Lucky and quickly apparated out of her flat about a block from Harry's house near her aunt's. She slowly put Lucky down and walked to Harry's parents' old house. She looked at it from afar and smiled. This was where Harry wanted she and him to live. She was quite excited about it as she slowly walked up to the front door and knocked. She sighed nervously and hoped she didn't surprise Harry too much and she hoped that he didn't mind that she was here.
